CDN NATIONALS Pics Galore

Fort-Ception.. Fortifications on a table that has a Fort...

Friday night Team Yankee mayhem: Here
Army glamour shots here
My Day 1 games Day 2 here

And now its just a picture dump of the rest of the battles, taken in between games.   With 46 players and such a wide array of nationalities (I didn't even know the Dutch had a list!!) it makes for something different than the usual games of Germans vs US/British that LW turns into.  Enjoy

CDN NATIONALS, Day 2

Game 1, Andrew B, Brit Matilda Co.   He had 2 command Matildas, platoon of Matildas, 2 infantry platoons and some recce carriers.  As we were both Tank companies, I had to attack.   As I have nothing except the gun-trucks which can scratch the paint on the Matildas, it would be an uphill battle.  I torched a reserve platoon of infantry, and got the recce carriers down to 1 vehicle left but their MGs had killed both gun-trucks.   No way of harming him, couldnt stop him contesting, 2-5 loss.
His Brit infantry were in the tall grass
I didnt take any further shots as I was futilely trying to get some platoon kills... His Matilda list was the rock to my scissors!

Game2 vs Andrew Dobson (I played all 3 Andrews...) Pincer, he was playing Finns with fortifications

CDN NATIONALS: Day 1

Game 1  Free for all vs Kurt R, Japanese: 1 large infantry group with banner, 5 tanks, 3 sets of guns, 1 infantryno banner.  He night attacked, and moved up and hunkered down, knowing I had too many MG shots for him to assault.   I didn't want to just sitzkrieg, so foolishly moved up  He clipped some Fearless Conscript tanks and also got my coastal gun-trucks.. my mistake there.. and then realizing we would just trade shots I knew I had to try and take out a platoon.  Only thing not dug in was his Tanks, so I killed them all but 1, but with Rgmt Banner nearby, auto passed his platoon check.   1-6 loss for me, though I wanted to say I have assaulted Japanese, and did so on the short flank.
Kurt moves up at night to these hedges

Tuner games for Early War Cdn Nationals

Avanti Savoia!  Going so fast its blurry!

Matt and I decided to do some tester games of Early War 1500 points, given that Canadian Nationals is weeks away.  Flush from my victories at the EW tourney up in Petawawa, I decide to keep using what works: as many tanks rammed down the enemy throat as possible. (video at the bottom)

First game, Encounter:  I was running 3 x 5 Carri platoons, 2 x 4 Tankette platoons and the coastal gun trucks.  He was running 5 dice of stukas, 2 infantry, Nebs, Panzer IIs and a Dicker Max!

Hey guys, back with a long post full of pics as usual, its been a while but w/e, got a lot done!   First lets look at the recent Petawawa Early War 1500 point tournament, which is a tune-up for this year's Cdn Nationals event in Ottawa on Labour Day weekend:

'When in Rome...' FOW Italians for EW and MW Part I

"You lookin' at me??" <DeNiro voice>

So from my good friend Andrew/Twinlinked from the podcast, I have finally convinced him to let go of his Italians.  I am a sucker for those weird wacky armies (Free French, 21 Pzr Bathtubs, etc) so why not trade my unbuilt Canadians for these guys.  Most of the were built, but in varying states of disrepair.   I also bought a few more tanks and things, and am still awaiting a Falco biplane.

Here is most of them built.. the used stuff was in a tan glossy undercoat which I will have to cover to match the rest.

Two Pounds At A Time

So, with the EW tournament at Perkin's Hobbies quickly approaching, I have been hard at work rounding out my British Armored Company to lay some non-HE type destruction on the table. As most players of FoW are well aware, the Brits lack HE anti-tank capability almost right through all of WW2. It's a huge hurdle when you are facing opponents that have dug-in infantry or guns....or anything else for that matter....up to and including a mess tin! You can't kill any of it without some firepower of a HE round.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'!
Now with the two trucks complete, I managed to create two small stands with magnets so the guns can be fully removed from the trucks and mounted on a small base. At this point, I know the trailing arms on a 2-Pdr face to the front, I'm just waiting to get my hands on some small wheels to finish these up proper. For the tournament, they'll do just fine and I can not wait to use them.

Initially I had zero interest in Early War and found myself with an entire company of tanks that had no use in any other theater. What I found though, after playing a few games, is that it seems to be a 'pure' game when you are having it out against your opponent. Sure this list, like my MW Australians lacks a lot of 'toys' and high-explosive capability. In the end it's still fun to play and I'm looking forward to Sunday. I'll bring a post-tournament writeup along as usual when I get back and actually show off my army when it's on fire and smoking on the table! Hopefully you are all having a great beginning to your summer and you should see some holidays at some point I would think yeh? One month to Historicon!

A "small" diversion...

BATTLTECH! This was my first miniature game. As I mentioned in my last post, Battletech holds a dear place in my hobby heart. I remember do...
