Hungarians! vs USA, TEAM YANKEE, 75 points, No Retreat

That's Right, Hungarians!   Obviously, there is no list out for them, but since the Warsaw Pact used Soviet stuff, why not break from the norm and go with a minor Soviet power.   Brett is using his Hungarians as Soviets for now (and likely VA book soon)  Let's take a look, No Retreat, 75 points vs Tristan's US Tank list, Desert-themed Texas National Guard. Both armies painted by the talented Scott 'Obsidian23' Roach

Tank HQ, 2 x Tank units, 2 ZSU-23s, 2 Hinds, and a short Motor Rifle Coy in BMP-2s with SA-14 team.   The rotor blades are indeed painted with the hungarian stripes.. historical (at airshows!)

Weapons of Choice M1A1 75mm Pack Howitzer

In this segment of Weapons of Choice, I'll be taking a look at the M1A1 75mm Howitzer. It's compact size and the power of the gun proved to be very versatile during WW2. Its use in Flames of War is not any different, with a few options to get it into any number of US or British lists. I'm a new fan of this addition to my US 82nd Airborne, it has proven to be a great choice for inexpensive artillery support.

Weekend Gaming and Painting

Saturday saw a few of the guys get together at my place for a little bit of gaming and a quiet refuge for Dennis to paint his Italians. With lots of food, beer and some video games to pass the time. Weather up here is starting to get colder and the leaves are off the trees, so no more gaming in the workshop until 2015!
Painting?? Nope. I ended up playing a game of 'Fighting Withdrawal' against Andrew instead.

Italian Campaign Round 1 AAR - FSSF v. Germans

Hello all, thought I'd drop in a quick AAR I had with fellow Dice Devil Diragi today as part of our day long Good Friday Hobby/painting/gaming/bad movie day at CA$H's place.

Since this is the first tier of our campaign we had 750 points to play with and we only had to have 1 of the 'mandatory' combat platoons in our armies. The next tier is when normal lists are required. I'm running my FSSF as I managed to make a list that will help me clear a tonne off my painting queue as this campaign draws on. Note, I am running these out of Dogs and Devils due to not having the new books yet!

In The Pipeline...or...Joyous' WIP

Alright, so of the Dice Devils, I have been without home Internet for awhile and thought posting was a lost cause until I found the blogger app!

So without further adieu, I give you guys a sneak of some upcoming articles ill roll out this week and a preview of my forces in the upcoming Italy Campaign we are running.

First Up is my new objectives I'm working on. Mostly done but need decals and weathering to finish them off.

America! Part 1

So, this is the start of a journey. A journey to the World War 2 American experience (kind of). I am embarking on Late War Americans.

I was looking to start an Allied Late War force, and wanted to play something "different". Not nessesarily different from the whole meta of Late War, but different from anything anyone locally is playing. That meant armored cars, or recon.

So, with the new books having tons of cool toys for Americans in late war, I hitched my wagon on to the Cavalry Recon train! I plan to run more than the minimum recon requirements, and really play a fast and brittle list. I am artificially restricting myself to ONE (1) Tank Destroyer platoon, to keep the list fun for my opponents to play against (I also don't see the need for more than one to be effective - unless all you want is 2 turn Alpha Strike games).

So, here is the list I have been toying with out of Devils Charge:

Confident Veteran USA Late-War

Headquarters
Cavalry Recon Troop HQ (2nd Cav)
2 M8 armored car

Combat Platoons
Cavalry Recon Platoon (2nd Cav) - 2 Platoons
2x M8 armored car
2x Mortar Jeep
2x Recon Jeep

Cavalry Recon Platoon (2nd Cav) - 2 Platoons
2x M8 armored car
2x Mortar Jeep
2x Recon Jeep

Weapons Platoons
Light Tank Platoon (2nd Cav)
4 M24 Chaffee

Support Platoons
Tank Destroyer Platoon (Veteran)
1x .50 cal Recon Jeep
2x M20 Scout Car
4x M18 Hellcat GMC
Improvised Tank Armour(4)

Armoured Rifle Platoon (Trained)
Confident Trained

1x Cmd Rifle team
5x Rifle team
2x M3 half-track with .50 cal AA MG
3x M3 half-track with AA MG
1x M2 60mm mortar
2x M1919 LMG team
2x  Bazooka team

Armoured Field Artillery Battery (Veteran)
1x Cmd Carbine team
1x Staff team
1x M4 Sherman OP
3x M7 Priest HMC

Company Points: 1655

This is just a jumping off point. The idea is that I get some "basics" that I can then roll into either a dedicated Armored Rifle Company, or Tank Company later on!

This is what I managed to get assembled last night, while hanging out with Matt Varnish and Diragi:

So the ARP and Hellcats are assembled, and as can be seen, I have the urban bases from BattleFront for all my infantry - it's still undecided if I will make the winter urban bases - we'll see.

So stay tuned, I plan to chronicle all the assembly, painting of the army, and any list changes. You may also see the AARs as I learn the play style as I hope to post them as well.

The Cavalry recon units are in the mail, so expect a post in the coming days when I receive them!

Cheers,

CA$H

Review: Flames of War Figure Case

Well for my xmas gift to myself, I shelled out the $100 for a Flames of War case.

I play US for flames of war, specifically a tank company, and the start of a paratrooper army.

My first impression was WOW! The things is really well made, and is durable. There is a lot of room for models inside of all kinds (infantry, tanks, command teams, artillery, armoured infantry and vehicles, etc).

The only issue I have, is that the foam included is generic, so any army can use it. Now for any of the infantry or artillery, basically anything on a base this is no problem, as the bases sizes are standard and fit nice and snugly.

The problem is in the tank and vehicle areas. I play with shermans, stuarts, M10s and halftracks, and unfortunately, the US versions of these are smaller than other armies, which leads to lost turrets in general jumbling around if i am rough with the case (as I was on purpose to test it).

Now, I am in the process of magnetizing all my turrets so that should solves the problem mostly. And Battlefoam does make army specific trays, which I will likely invest in, in the new year, but for now, the bog standard case is what I have.

Final Analysis (or the TL;DR section): The case is very well made and seems ideally suited for German armour. All models on bases will be great in this case. Various factions tanks and armoured vehicles may see a bit of shuffling, though if you don't bang your case around they'll be steller.

Value: 7/10 - Good quality cases cost money, but this is even a bit pricier (on par with Battlefoams stuff)
Quality: 9/10 - Well made, durable, good construction.
Appearance: 10/10 - Looks great and with an army specific patch and a nameplate it would DY-NO-MITE!

Would I buy one again? Yes I would, but I would immediately shell out the cash for the army specific trays and sell some of the standard ones to friends/ebay.
