From the skies.....oh, and giant solar lasers on lizards

The progress with this army has been astounding. By focusing even 30 minutes a day on something related to the force (building, basing, priming, painting etc) I have witnessed it grow steadily over the past couple months. It helps that we are still in COVID-19 lock down, but really I had already built the habit as a "new years goal" if you will and it's really bearing fruit.

First up are my new Terradons swooping in to drop their deadly cargo:

I again turned to my airbrush and used it  to pretty decent effect in blending the Terradons from red to yellow. I am still undiminished in my enjoyment of painting bright vibrant colors. Here are some more close up shots of the Terradons:

Pandemic update #1 - Roar!

Pandemic. Never thought I'd lead with that but we are all experiencing crazy times. I want to wish anyone reading this the best health, and I hope you and your family/loved ones are safe and in good health. The one upside of this "social distancing" and "stay home/stay safe" shutdown means I am working from home, and it affording me more time to focus on hobby time. This is significant for me as I have always turned to hobbies to reduce stress, clear my head and lower overall anxiety. There's always a silver lining....sometimes you just have to look harder for it.

With all that said, here is were I am with the Seraphon army:

Completed and Painted:

15 Saurus Knights with Lances
20 Saurus Warriors (23 total with 2nd full command) with clubs and shields
20 Skinks with Boltspitters and shields
1 Skink Priest
1 Skink Starpriest
1 Scar-Veteran on Cold One
1 Oldblood on Carnosaur

 I didn't base him initially so I could easily get to his underside and legs.

Sponge is for cleaning the airbrush tip/nozzle while spraying to prevent buildup - game changer for preventing spatter!

The Knights who say....

I got nothing.... I tried to come up with a Monty Python/Seraphon pun but it went nowhere. Needless to say I got my knights completed! All 15, painted as 3 units of 5 with full command. I also completed a Scar-Veteran on Cold One! So with no delay, here are some pics:

Adding some character to the army

The progress continues on my new Seraphon Army project. After completing 20 skinks and 23 Saurus warriors I have continued into the supporting cast - aka the Heroes of this fledgling force.

Following the "kitbash" recommendations from Lustria Online I have built and painted the following 3 Heroes:

Hero Number #1 -  Skink Priest

Using one of my spare skinks (from the unit box that comes with 24) along with some bits from the Saurus Warriors sprues I kit-bashed up a simple Skink Priest. The rules (https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Warscrolls/aos-warscroll-skinkpriest-en.pdf) lends this models to represent the priest with the "Priestly Trappings" choice over the "Cloak of Feathers" option.  Adding the top of a totem along with making my skink heroes orange skinned helps differentiate these from the regular skinks. There is no mistaking them on the table and they are WYSIWIG - perfect! Each kit-bashed hero also saves me $25+ which is awesome. I also ensure that all bits used are GW by the way so they are completely "tournament legal" should the need ever arise.

On to Hero Number 2:

Seraphon - aka Space Lizards!

It's been a long while since I last started an "army" scale project. The last few game systems I have been involved in have been smaller skirmish systems like Infinity that only required 10-20 models at maximum. Now granted, Age of Sigmar army sizes are much smaller (total model count wise) than the Warhammer fantasy of old. Yes you can choose to paint up units of 40+ Skaven clanrats but really the game rewards smaller more mobile units because there are actually very few scenarios that require one to "camp" an objective. This is due to this specific rule:

"Once you gain control ofan objective, it remains underyour control until the enemy isable to gain control of it."

The beauty of this is that you don't have to babysit objective to score them each turn. It encourages mobility, which leads to more back and forth during a game - something I really enjoy. But enough about the core rules (they are free here : https://ageofsigmar.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2018/06/AoS_Rules-ENG.pdf ) let's get back to Seraphon. I have been busy the past 10 days.....

Returning to where it all began...

Well, not exactly. My first war game was Battletech. Bought my first Ral Partha pewter mechs in the late '80s when they looked like this :

I have kickstarted the recent reboot of Battletech along with Battletech: Clan Invasion by Catalyst Games (I will cover more on that later) but this isn't exactly the "roots" I am speaking about. The first war game I really got into, played in stores, and collected and built many armies for was.......

2020 - New Beginnings

A new year. A new decade. Looking back at this site, all the way back to 2009, I see why I started it. It was a way to log my hobby and gaming interests. That was it. A simple idea that I have not always stuck to, but I haven't stopped in the hobby arena. In fact, my interests have grown more diverse and interesting (at least to me) and my skills have slowly improved. So with that said, this is my note to myself to get back to the basics. I plan to post a few times a month, hopefully weekly, with the progress I am making across the different games an interests I have, and just see where my 2020 hobby takes me.

This is a departure for me from the usual war games I play as it's closer to a board game, except with Champions you buy and paint and choose which you want to use each time you play. It's kinda like a cross between a MOBA (like Dota 2 or League of Legends) and a miniature war game. Here is a trailer for it:
