Tyranid Ramblings

Ok, so I have a pretty good idea of what is coming down the pike for the Tyranids now, time to look at a few lists.

In general, some troops have gone down in cost, while the larger stuff has definitely increased in cost.

My old Genestealer list.. lets see how it fares with new costs (this is what I took to the Locara Tourney, 1250 pts)

Hive Tyrant with scything talons, bonesword, whip. he is base 170 now, but this includes things you had to pay for before, namely ws and str, but to give him 2+ save is another 40.
I had just finished converting him to be all CCW, but now that venom cannons for hive tyrants are actually useful, and are just 20 points, I might put his gun back on. For now, lets just say he is stock at 170 adding 2+ save is 210

2 CCW carnifexes. These are now 160 base, including bs skill upgrade, but still no way to make it 2+ save. 2 make it into one of the old gun fexes, is another 45 points. Dont know what ill do with my gunfex model, but for now, lets just keep these as is, though it is tempting to give them bioplasma, which for 10 points is a 12 inch range plasmacannon shot. I had 2+ save before, so I'll just give them regenerate to make it as close in utility as my old list: so add 50 for 2 x regen
210 for the pair.

I have 3 broods of 12 genestealers. I have 1 broodlord in my old list, so will include it in one of the broods. They have gotten cheaper, broodlord can now fleet, yay, but lose scuttlers, gain infiltrate.

Brood 1, scything talons, broodlord: 238
Brood 2 &3 stock: 144 each, 526 total

Had one squad of termagants without number for holding my back field, will include here.. these got cheaper, and ironically, made spinefists cost more!! sure glad all my gants are termagants.
x10: 50 points.

Lets see: 1206 points. So I lost 44 points, but also lost 3 x toxic miasma on carnifexes and hive tyrant, lost 2+ save on carnifexes, gained regen on them, gained WS.

Not bad.

Next up, what Id like to take for 1500 points in the new book..

Friday Night Fights & Project Ultra for WWPD

This week on the virtual battlefield, it was an all Infantry affair as I continued to test Rob's Canadians for the upcoming 2013 Historicon tournament. We rolled up 'No Retreat' as the mission. Seeing as we both field foot footsoldier lists, we had to roll over who would attack. I came up with the higher number after Rob rolled a big fat 1. After choosing which end he would defend, we began deployment and objective placements. Enjoy the video of the game and I happened to take some pics as well covering most of the action.

Looking at the board layout, Rob chose the best side from which to defend. No matter which way I wanted to approach from, there were going to be a lot of slow moving anti-tank guns and bog checks moving 4" at a time in order to get range on those dug in Canadians. I have to say after being bombarded nearly every turn, rocket batteries are the way to go for maximum effect on target.

I had a hard time breaking through all the terrain to get my guns go…

VERSION 4 Flames Test Game 1 DAK vs Desert Rats

"What do you say, old boy, shall we go kick the Jerries out of Africa?" Monty

Using the WWPD rules compilation, and stats and such from the preview copy of the rulebook that stores have, plus some from the latest WGI, we apply our Team Yankee prowess to run a Test game of Version 4.  TO make equivalent lists, I used V3 points for both (1340pts) and the DAK force comes out at 82 pts using V4 points.  Video with our opinions at bottom of article.   Lets see the lists:
